But when I told our customer they need to install the kext with a
root account, they said this is not so user-friendly because the
root account is disable by default in MAC OS X.
The root account is not required to install into the system folders.
Just require administrator privileges. Are you using PackageMaker to
create Apple-like install packages? You might also want to write a
small shell script which adjustes the kext's ownership/file
permissions after it has been installed, in case Apple's installer
doesn't handle this correctly (just try this out).
PackageMaker is fairly well documented, have a look to its "Help" menu.
