yuv 4:2:0 in quicktime

Hi ,   I am writing a video digitizer for my camcorder which is sending planar yuv 4:2:0 . What will be  the role of compresson type functions in this  vdig? Can I just pass the yuv 4:2:0 format video to the sequence grabber ?
