Detecting underlying USB device for virtual com port

Good day,

I am searching for a way to query the USB deviceID / producer / etc strings of a specific /dev/cu.xxx (virtual com port) device.

Is there any OSX specific API that allows the discovery of the USB device which is mapped to a given /dev/tty.xxx or /dev/cu.xxx device?

I am working with a device featuring a KDDI USB/serial bridge chip. Several devices may be connected at the same time. Unfortunately KDDI only provides VCP drivers for OSX, hence there is no obvious way to access the product information stored in the bridge chip to give the user some guidance which port he needs to choose for any given device.

Best regards,
Joachim
