I don't think the internal modem on Apple PowerBooks has caller ID detection.

There's a simple call for this, I think 'ATA'

The internal modem does not support cached audio, nor does it allow communication with the hardware, afaik.

'ATH'

I'd love to be wrong about these things. The old PowerMac 660AV and 840AVs both had the features you want. It seems the lack of these two things (internal audio cache and callerID) have put a stumbling block before anyone trying to build simple voicemail systems for the Mac.

If you're still interested in it though, I think what you want is the example serial code on Apple's site.

Title: Programming to Apple USB Modem?
I need to do the following from a Carbon Application, with an Apple USB Modem:

New to Mac environment.  Coding for latest 10.4.x only on new iMac. Any pointers much appreciated. Sample code would be too good to be true. I suspect entry point is IOKit. Is this correct?
