You should look at the descriptors using USB Prober.  That will tell you the capabilities of the particular iPod you are looking at.

However I think you're wasting your time.   I believe iPod Audio sample info goes though the licensed IAP interface.

Does anybody have correct bytes to be set to get cur?
 
USB packet: A2 81 00 01 81 00 08 00
I use Thesycon tool to send simple commands.
 
Set configuration, set interface works.
