Re: Limiting copies of copyrighted works

What you are looking for goes by the moniker "digital rights management" or DRM for short. This is Microsoft's "next big thing" and is being slowly worked into a number of places. For what you are looking for, I think that there is an eBook format that might do the trick, but I also think it is Windows only. Right now I don't know of a robust cross-platform method of doing this for any type of media, especially not for something like a PDF. The best I can thnk of is a password protected PDF.

I have a client who has asked me to research a way to limit the number of copies (or prevent additional copies being made) of a short book on film-making that he wishes to market over the internet. He currently has the book in pdf format. Googling for "file copy limit" has turned up only sources related to file size limitations during transfers/uploads/etc. Can any one get me pointed in the right direction?
