onFocus at the Window level.

I am designing an online "light box" for a photographer. When the user clicks on an image, it opens in a new window. I want the original window to refresh (reload) when the user closes that window. In the past I would use an "onFocus" in the body tag, but this is evidently not standards compliant (and therefor doesn't work in -say- Safari). I have looked through the archives, and on the W3C pages, but I am yet to find anything about how to accomplish this.

Can anyone give me a little direction here?
