Aaaah you see, there lies the problem.
To make the document appear as the right document type i have to add a
line to Apache, in the .conf file, that reads:
AddType application/rss+xml .rdf .xml
However, as I said in my original post, I can't amend the configuration
of the hosting companies webserver in such a way.
