You're right, Ian: I'm using PNGs and the problem doesn't occur with GIFs.
But, honestly, I wouldn't want to miss the superior qualities of PNGs. As a matter of fact, rarely use GIFs anymore at all.
It seems to me that if I found a way to remove the color profile information from the PNGs, I should be able to have my cake and eat it.
Unfortunately, GraphicConverter doesn't seem to offer this functionality and Fireworks doesn't seem to offer a way to prevent it from embedding the profiles in the first place…
…Suggestions anyone?

What type of image files are you using? I have had issues with .png files matching in various browsers because they can include color profile information which may or may not be read by a browser. For matching background colors, .gif is still your best bet. (Unless that is what you are already using, but I have never had a problem with it...)
