You're right, Ian: I'm using PNGs and the problem doesn't occur with
GIFs.
But, honestly, I wouldn't want to miss the superior qualities of PNGs.
As a matter of fact, rarely use GIFs anymore at all.
It seems to me that if I found a way to remove the color profile
information from the PNGs, I should be able to have my cake and eat it.
Unfortunately, GraphicConverter doesn't seem to offer this
functionality and Fireworks doesn't seem to offer a way to prevent it
from embedding the profiles in the first place…
…Suggestions anyone?
