AFAIK, there isn't one true standard, so basically you're stuck with whatever the browser vendor decides to use.


I do know that Microsoft has a standard of their own that they've stuck to since version nil or so -- I saw a mention of it on the IE blog, so you'd have to grep that for the info.
Dunno how Mozilla and the other vendors handle things...
