Hi Dan,
Web design or web development? For design/interface work, you've got
the two biggies already -- Photoshop and Illustrator. You'll need a
good text-editor:
* BBEdit
* skEdit
* Textmate
* Dreamweaver
...there are others but these are the four that I've used;
and probably an SFTP program like Transmit that Doug mentions.
I've also found it useful to have a good CSS reference book and my
dog-eared Pantone Solid-to-RGB swatch book.
