I use Dreamhost, and like it very much. The recent downtimes seemed to
be related to power outages. Although there should be UPS and auxiliary
power generators, sizing them adequately is probably a moving target,
at least for some regions.
As a former system administrator, I find the listings on the status
page reassuring. They tell you exactly what has gone wrong and what
they did to fix it. Might be too much information for some. On many
other services you will find that you will be unable to FTP files to
your site, often for an hour or more without any indication as to what
went wrong.

Look at Dreamhost.com
Or don't. If you're concerned about reliability, don't use DreamHost.
I use DreamHost myself, and would recommend them if your primary
interests are price and features. But just take a look at their
status page to get an idea of how often their essential services go
down:
Just in the past week, pretty much their entire network went down for
about five hours, and several individual servers have been down with
unrelated issues. DreamHost is cheap, offers a lot of services, and
has quick (if not always satisfying) responses on support tickets.
But reliable they are not.
Peace,
Scott
