If you can see it in the browser, you can keep it. If you want to keep people from stealing your images, you could do

chmod 600 *.jpg

in your images folder. But I suspect that would make for a boring site.

Really, watermarking or some other form of degradation is one approach you might take, but the other is simply to treat people as if they were adults, make a clear copyright (or other rights) statement on the site, and be done with it. The amount of time you spend worrying about this and trying to engineer an end-run around your users will be wasted in most cases.

Don't post anything you wouldn't give away anyway.

No, even though you can disable right-click with JS or use Flash, the user could always just do an Command-4 and grab the image.
