Thanks for the help, but I think you’ve missed out reading the subject ;)

I need to detect this from _javascript_ if possible. Safari in 32bit mode supports different plugins compared to Safari in 64bit mode and I need to differentiate.
Internet explorer gives me “x64” in the appVersion if running a 64bit instance

Look in Activity Monitor — the "Kind" column says so. (You might have
to turn that column on via the View menu.)
