It will be based on Cairo, but otherwise should not require any external
libraries.

Hi Brent,

This is potentially good news. I have a question, though.

After reading this post, I found the Cairo library at http://www.cairographics.org. I wanted to try the tutorial, and I'm on a Mac, so needed to get the library. My first attempt with Macports failed, so I ended up getting the source.

Trying to configure the build led me to getting all of these:
pkgconfig
libpng
freetype
fontconfig

At the point that fontconfig wouldn't configure because it couldn't find libxml-2.0 I gave up on this approach. Eventually I updated my Macports installation and used it to get Cairo.

So I was wondering about your "should not require any external libraries" line. Did you mean "other than all of the dependencies Cairo has"?

Thanks,
Rush
