Thanks to all for the help, for those that search this archive later, here's the solution that I found that worked. There's an environment variable WEBOBJECTS_JAVA_EXTENSIONS that contains the path where the JDBC driver should be installed. I also found this document http://mts.wmich.edu/installguide/WebObjects5_2InstallationGuide012003.doc to be quite helpful.
