Thanks Chuck for replying so quickly,

You won't believe this, but I realized that I had FlameRobin open and connected to the database when I was doing synchronizations. By just disconnecting FlameRobin, the synchronizations worked famously! Ugh... all that fretting about commits, etc. was just wrong.

I will write up some documentation and release it to the world in a few days.

You could put the commit statements inline in the statements returned by that method.  Also, check to see if FireBird supports auto-commit for  a connection.  You could connect in auto-commit mode.
