Re: Primary Key Maximum value

Miguel,

It appears to me that EOF doesn't like 8 byte integers as primary keys.  I haven't tried this in PostgreSQL but it definitely doesn't seem to work using MySQL.  I configured the model to use BIGINT (8 byte integer), instructed EOF to translate the value to Long using a lower case l (el) as the Value Type.

After setting the PK value to 5000000000 (5 billion) and inserting a new object the object's PK contained the value 705032705.

Also had to manually modify the PK column of EO_PK_TABLE from INT to BIGINT.

It appears that something internal to EOF is generating PKs as Integer and in some casting magic values too large for an Integer get mangled.

Hi!

I'm in the state of panic here...

I have modeled my DB using 8 byte primary key values. Apparently PostgreSQL takes this fine.

Today, I needed some code to obtain a primary key, and used the code at <http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Programming:WebObjects/EOF/Using_EOF/Primary_Keys>.

I started suspecting that it would not work, because it checks for an Integer, and the key should be a Long value. The problem is that... it worked!

What does this mean? WO only supports 4 byte primary keys? That's not good at all... please tell me I'm going crazy for no reason and there's something tremendously obvious that I have missed.
