I doubt this is even possible.  getimage in Apple's X11 server doesn't
work, and would probably be difficult to make work.  X clients implement
their pseudo transparency by grabbing the image behind the window.  It
would probably compile, but is only black that is returned.

Another approach would be to add a transparency extension to the X
server, and just enable it on a per-window basis.  Quartz does real
transparency quite nicely.
