see if you have any /tmp/.X0-lock or
.X11-unix , etc file around.
The /tmp/.X0-lock file in particular will prevent X from starting.
For some reason, Apples window manager doesn't cleanup
when closed (like most systems). You need to close each
client, before quiting.
