J. Lester, you totally rock!!!

I installed DragThing, and it fixes the problem.  I haven't figured
out if I'll purchase the software or not, because this is the only
reason I think I would use it.  Anyway, I updated the post in the
Apple forums:

and I also updated my bug report to tell them that DragThing fixes the
problem.  Hopefully they'll be able to figure something out based up
on this software.  Thanks so much for taking the time to figure out
what solved the problem on your machine.
