I see this also. Additionally sometimes the xterm look like the original one that launched when X11 was launched and sometime it is a larger font, has the sidebar and the window is bigger (probably to accommodate the larger font). Also, sometimes, the window appears but no prompt and no response. Need to go to 'kill' to get rid of it.
