Our X11 apps are worth a try in this regard, but if you are worried
about your Apple X11 installation, be careful not to overwrite it.
Although is named for Panther, it is reportedly working fine on Tiger
as well.

In this case, I'd suggest untarring the needed files only in /. Here is
an example.
sudo -s
cd /
/usr/bin/tar -jxf /Users/*/Desktop/XFree86-Panther-4.4.0.tbz \
usr/X11R6/bin/xterm
We also have an rxvt package package, which is a fast and nice
replacement for xterm. Just let me know, if you need the link.
For future reference, it may be simpler to use GNU-Darwin pkg_add for
this kind of operation.
You should backup up your existing binaries before overwriting them in
this manner. Hope that this helps.
