Make sure you don't have a bad ~/.xinitrc file in your $HOME
directory. I ran into this problem this weekend while moving
everything from my ThinkPad 600 running SuSE 9.2 Pro Linux to a
PowerBook running OS X Tiger. There was an .xinitrc file that
tried to start the SuSE KDE window manger, which is a bit
difficult as it doesn't exist on the PowerBook.
