However, this sounds more like X11 thinking that your Shift key is stuck rather than the Caps Lock key. (Caps Lock wouldn't make the numbers become punctuation.) Have you tried pressing both of your Shift keys a few times? Usually when something like this happens I would start pressing all my modifier keys a few times and see if things get unstuck.
