Ben, no insulted intelligence here, but you should know that when I launch the "About...." dialogue from the Apple menu it reports 1.2a8 as the version.

I looked in /usr/X11/bin, and from the time stamp Xquartz has been overwritten.

Not to insult your intelligence but was 1.2a9 indeed the one zipped and uploaded? ;)
