X11 on MacBookPro running Leopard

Hello All,

I am new to mac but seasoned on linux. I NEED to be
able to run on my new mac X applications that run
remotely on some linux clusters. I have seen many
postings on X11 and leopard and now I am very
confused...

My problem:

the yellow or disappearing cursor

My even worst problem now*:

(* after having applied the xfix.tar patch,
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060316124704289):

a black screen instead of the remote window showing
the gnuplot plot !!!! and a lot of errors (Undefined
color: "black" ...) even WORST I cannot open emacs
anymore!!!

This is a short description of my settings:

I have created a .bash_profile where I specify: export
DISPLAY=:0.0

(BTW for some reason neither terminal or iTerm source
automatically .barshrc or .bash_profile, annoying
having to source them each and every time but I guess
I could live with it if the rest would work)

I start X11

I open my iTerm and ssh to the remote linux cluster
with: ssh -Y ...

all is fine but those applications that change the
cursor (gnuplot plot window, emacs, etc...) can
somebody PLEASE HELP??? Not being able to run emacs
remotely will make me seriously reconsider my move to
mac and I sure hope a fix of sorts is out there.
PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks :)

suwiyu
