I wasn't advocating it, but it seemed someone else I'd read on the list had been. Perhaps I misread, it's not critically important, I'm just trying to learn the new ropes.

The advantage of Leopard is that you don't have to start X11.app explicitly before starting an X program.  HOW you start the X program hasn't changed, you just have one less step to take first.

While it doesn't add any steps in the process I'd been using, it doesn't save one. In Tiger I started an X-Windows session by clicking on the X Darwin icon in the doc. X Windows would start with the window manager of my choice which had it's own menu system and launching capabilities. I was able to do that in some cases, depending on the window manager, without any terminal window. I've only made one Leopard installation so far, but in that one I lost my window manager (haven't tried reinstalling yet).

What I'd envision for a future place with X11 would be similar to what I had before. I would launch X11 and get the environment, without the extra terminal window. I'd have the window manager of choice and launch applications as desired into their own windows.

I like the 'applications' menu concept, but I've had some problems getting to work to my satisfaction. I have an amateur radio application I tried to launch from the applications menu, but it wouldn't work for me. I entered in the command as I use it at the command-line, but it wouldn't work. In this case it is a very simple one-word command (no switches or anything). I re-entered it as a full path and it worked. Why the difference? Does not X11 read in the path from .bash_profile when it starts?

Why does the xterm application launch in a mini window without my .Xdefaults settings? If I type 'xterm' from a Terminal window it will launch X11 using the settings from .Xdefaults. I want ALL xterm launchings to use those defaults, that's why they're there!!!
