xserver branches & master branch instability

I spent some time mapping out the main branches in the xserver git repository.  Here's what I figured out:

            +------xorg-server-apple-1.2
           /
/   +-- server-1.2-branch (just contains a "don't use this" commit past the common branch point with 1.3)
         /   /
    +---+---+------ server-1.3-branch (branched from master 2006-09-16)
   /
  /                   +----------server-1.4-branch (branched from master 2007-08-15)
 /                   /
+-------------------+---------- master

Ben, you mentioned that Xquartz based off of master is not stable... we're having many crashes in the rootless code.  Have you found any ways to make it crash more easily, so I can test for this crash?  Also, at what points in master did you notice this problem?  Did you try it before or after the 1.4 branch (Aug 15)?  I see you have commits in master in February, was it working then?
