Re: X11 on a network?

/usr $ gdu -scm X11
166	X11
166	total

So, 166M

Beware, though, that if you want to run gimp, your coordinator will need to install an update to the X11 package described here: http://www.x.org/wiki/XDarwin

I had asked to have GIMP installed in our computer lab for use by our students. We can't afford to buy graphics software and this is pretty powerful open source software. I was told that the X11 add-on would be needed and the tech coordinator doesn't want to install it on our server because we already have a lot on our server (just installed IP phones district-wide) and doesn't want to risk causing a problem. However, someone told me that even though X11 uses a client-server model that both could reside on the same machine and that this is the default setup included on the OSX installation disk.

I just wanted to verify this. How much disk space does X11 require?

Thanks.
