Thanks for your well-worded posts, Jordan.

Thanks to the efforts of many on this list, I've been able to find
workarounds for all my X11-related problems (yay!) before an official
update came out.  That's a first for me with regards to Apple software
bugs, and convinced me to join several other Apple mailing lists.
Things that support openness, collaboration, and transparency (like
this list) go a long way to balance the closed processes that exist in
large organizations.

I've also started experimenting with git, which decision was heavily
influenced by discussion on this list.
