getting Tiger's X11 running on Leopard

Thanks Paul. That got something installed, but X11 crashes before fully launching. I fear I will have to do a complete reinstall of Leopard X11 and then repeat Ben's instructions because I may have screwed something up while playing around trying to get this to work.

Before giving up on Leopard's X11, try the instructions at

Just running idldemo from an old IDL 5.6 demonstration, I'm having no
problems.  I've done the installations from the wiki page.
I already did that. I still get random crashes of X11 in the middle of my IDL sessions. It seems to be related to how much memory I'm using, like it's not freeing up memory or something.
