I'm not a sysadmin, I'm a scientist desperately trying to get back to a stable X11 system so I can do my research, so if anyone can help me get out of this mess and how to get Tiger's X11 running on my machine I would be most grateful.
Josh, here's the note I sent out to our Mac community:
Here's the Tiger version of X11: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/x11update2006113.html
Here's how to install it: http://lists.apple.com/archives/x11-users/2007/Nov/msg00005.html
Basically, this gave me a largely-working Leopard system (still a few issues with NIS and PAM authentication, I think -- haven't tracked them down yet).
By the way, I really appreciate some of the other improvements in the BSD subsystem of Leopard!
Bill
