I like using the bitstream vera mono font for my terminals and emacsen. This doesn't work under Leopard: The font files are in /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/, but the Vera fonts are not listed in /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/fonts.dir.
So I tried running the commands
mkfontscale /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/ mkfontdir /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/ xset fp recache
but then the final command produces this output:
/usr/X11R6/bin/xset: bad font path element (#63), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax
I have no idea how that (#63) is supposed to enlighten me, and anyway, the vera fonts dont appear: The fonts.dir contains lines like
Vera.ttf -bitstream-bitstream vera sans-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0- iso10646-1
but xlsfonts does not list the font.
Is this a bug in the X server's handling of truetype fonts, or did I make a mistake, or is something else going on?
