Ah.  But he wasn't talking about moving windows:  He's talking about
what happens when the mouse cursor moves into or out of windows.

Been there, done that.  It is the same thing that happens with the
failsafe login which is typically provided to deal with a situation
when you messed up your .xinitrc or .xsession.

You get one xterm, usually but not necessarily sitting in the upper
left corner of the screen.  Place the mouse cursor within it, and you
can type some text.  Move it outside, and you can no longer type into
the xterm.  You can start more xterms, using the -geometry argument to
avoid placing them on top of the first one.  And then you can move the
mouse cursor about in order to decide which window gets the input.
