Yes -- I was trying to speak to why that was done.  I think that, for
the singular case of X11 on OS X, compatibility should be more
important than improvement, and that in Leopard, the order of those
two concerns were mistakenly reversed.

Maybe you're right -- I was hoping to avoid coming to that conclusion.
Certainly releasing the broken version has spurred a great deal of
constructive effort.
