Re: Runaway CPU

This is a known issue with the kernel. It's not just with X11. I assure you that Apple engineers are working on it and it is a high priority.

I was seeing this a _lot_ when I got my 8 core Mac Pro (Early 2008) a few days after they were released. The bug I filed in Radar was marked as a duplicate. I've seen this with Terminal as well as xterm.

There's an interesting new wrinkle I've discovered today. This runaway cpu happens 100% of the time if I have more than 3 local xterms running regardless of how I start them. I can start as many as I like from another ssh-connected system and send the displays back to OS X. No problems at all, and now that's how I have to run all the xterms I need.

The symptoms remain - the cpu temperature immediately jumps up, the fan noise increases, and the activity monitor shows a railed CPU.
