Because not every Xcode project uses Interface Builder.

It's been easier for me.

i would argue that even as a
technical person, my time is wasted struggling with
obtuse technical problems when all i really want is to
get a simple program up and running.

But you haven't explained any of the problems you've been having. Excluding bugs I've found and reported, I've never had any problems getting around PB and Xcode. OTOH, I never did understand the old MPW system that they replaced. And I greatly prefer IB over ResEdit.
