And that seems like a mistake to me when you have the concept of build
styles included.
IMHO, managing different variants in two separate targets, isn't that
cumbersome:

Yes, but I shouldn't *have* to make huge concession in how I want to
organize my project to fit the IDE, the IDE is supposed to make
concessions to fit to *MY* way of doing things. Work with me, not
against me.
Sometimes I miss the simple clarity of MPW and its build environment.
I've been spoiled by CodeWarrior and hoped that Xcode would be the best
of all things, a sort of CodeWarrior++ but that just hasn't panned out.
