Re: Learning Xcode ???

Hey! I saw your post on XCode Forums. And I happen to have an interest in Graphic design.

When I started out in programming, I did some basic BASIC stuff. Nothing of real notice other than the fact that it was technically programming. I then moved on to AppleScript. The big part of this whole thing is learning how to think in programmatic terms. Xcode is a great tool to create and manage projects with. All you can really do is pick a language, then a book, and follow along. I find it really helpful that Xcode comes with all of these pre-designed templates that give you a working app that will compile. Of course, it doesn't do much, but you can add to it.

My first real project that met with some succes was a Java calculator applet. I started using another IDE (The name had something to do with coffee, I think(Ah! Now I remember. It was Roaster)) and later imported it into Xcode to attempt to continue work with it. Recently at work, I began converting and creating databases. To do the really "cool" stuff, I had to turn to VBA. My background in Java (and AppleScript) really helped me to take off with it. This rekindled my programming desire and I took on another Java project for J2ME (a lot easier than J2SE, if you ask me).

After a while, I was able to make some headway into my projects, and when I couldn't figure something out, then I'd turn to the books or search online.

Cecelia
