By the way, BB offers a quirky-but-convenient "crossgrade" deal: you
can buy BBEdit for $99 if you "own" TextWrangler. TextWrangler is
free, so it's just a matter of downloading. They used to have a
similar deal for the free BBEdit Lite.

I use (and am happy with) BBEdit, but I notice that Bare Bones's

It's OS X native, of course, and my guess is that it works pretty
much the way BBEdit does.

I've only used FileMerge a few times (the source code merging tool
that comes with xcode), but I'm already looking for something a
bit smarter to replace it. I'm of the opinion that a file merging
tool should make the task easier than doing it completely by hand.
I'm very keen on a Windows utility called Beyond Compare. Does
anyone know of something similar for OS X? I notice that xcode
can be configured to use BBEdit instead of FileMerge, but at
199USD it is out of my price range - something under 60USD would
be more appropriate.
thanks,
