And my company plans to re-write this application in cross-platform Java,
but that's not planned till the end of this year at the earliest.

Two or three days ago there was a lengthy message (Georg Tuparev) on the SciTech list why such an approach can be much worse: You mostly loose the platform specific look, feel, workflow, etc. and it doubles development time. He even had some research results regarding development time.
