I agree people should cut them a little slack, however I don't know
about just how short notice they had. At some point in the past year,
I attended a presentation by Apple people (thank you for the free
food) at UCSD (it was during fall quarter) and when the question of
the switch to intel came up, someone said that as part of the tools
team, he had known about it since the beginning. (I'm not entirely
sure why he said it since it was followed by some remark about how he
had to keep it secret from other Apple people who didn't need to know.
I'd say they knew about it, they had time to deal with it, and they
succeeded. The first time I tried to build a UB, it worked and I'm
not talking about Hello World here. Basically, what I'm saying is
there is no need to make excuses for them. I'd say the work speaks
for itself.
