Sooo whats the deal with Safari ?? It's cocoa i guess but they dont
use IB, is this a trend? And if so to me it feels like it is
encouraged if it comes from apple...

There's no reason why you can't use IB to lay out custom windows and controls. Use IB to do your layout, and then just override the drawing of the controls at runtime.
