Re: How to launch an application for a given document name from carbon

When double clicking an Icon for a document with a well known application bound to it, the finder automatically start the appropriate application and shows the document.

How would this be done from within a Carbon application with a given document file specification or where can I find documentation on how to do this?

You'd have better luck with your Carbon questions on carbon-dev, instead of the Xcode-information list.

See <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/BPRuntimeConfig/index.html>
and <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/XcodeUserGuide/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/05_02_bs_targets/chapter_30_section_6.html>.

I'll admit I can't find any magical term you could type into the full-text search of the Documentation window, but if you aren't familiar with these documents, you'll have more trouble writing OS X applications.
