It always took that long. But, now in Xcode 2.3 the new behavior is
that the user is at least alerted on why the installer will be
taking so long.
This alert panel was added to Xcode 2.3 installer as a fix for a
bug. Before this fix, the installation would take a very long time
to finish even when "Time Remaining" label displayed "less than a
minute" message which was very annoying.

Revising my earlier estimate (based on the time stamp of my first
email to this list), I think that this installation/indexing
process has been running for over two hours now. The warning said,
"20 minutes to 1 hour". At what point should I begin to be
concerned? Will killing the pbxhelpindexer process screw up the
rest of the xcode installation?
Was this process tested on a crappy old G4 cpu? I don't have one
of those fancy dual core intel chips yet. I do not recall it
taking this long with the 2.2 install.
