It's done! It's done! Total time was about 2-2.5 hours on a 1.5GHz G4 with 1G RAM. I'm definitely going to start the G5 install just before I leave work for the day.
And, fwiw, it really never did take this long before, at least not for me. I promise you.
In either 2.1 or 2.2 I believe Apple (sorry my memory is going..) had the installer index the Java docs if you installed them instead of having them already indexed (something like that). If you don't need the Java docs your install will be much much faster (you don't have to install them).
