had Xcode set up to give me multiple editing window

This is one of the "secrets" of Xcode that I discovered long ago, and is *very* important to people who like multiple windows. With a text editor front most, go to View/Customize Toolbar... and check out the "editing mode" icon. Notice how it shows 2 files, one offset the other. Now look on your editor window tool bar and see if this icon is present, and if so, does it have the 2 file look or the one file look. The two file look is what you want, and it will toggle if need be to get it. With this set up, over on the top right hand side, there is a doo-dad that looks like two squares, one offset from the other. Press it, and hooray, your "counterpart" will appear in a separate file. By this means, you can view both header and code simultaneously in different files.

It's just that simple...

For what it is worth, I think this is an issue even in java. it drives me crazy that I can see only one file at a time in Eclipse.
