 I finally solved my problem thanks to you Andy. There's also another
point I should mention :
the app whose icon-changing was the subject of this thread already had an
earlier version
present in //Applications.
 Even when everything else was set correctly, the new app still used the
old icon (even though
find myProjectFolder -type f | xargs grep oldIcon.icns produced an empty
output)
probably because the system was somehow confused over the two versions.
Only when I removed
the old version of the app from the //Applications folder did everything
come into order.

                              Thanks to all those who answered me on this
thread.
