Doing a "defaults read com.apple.Xcode" I see a default called PBXProjectWizardSavedDirectories that contains the directories in that drop-down menu, *except* for ~/. I suspect that list of directories is added to the menu programmatically, so changing the defaults setting won't have change the default menu selection.

Yeah, and the fact that we all have such a list, which doesn't for any of us show ~/, yet we all see ~/, pretty much clinches it: that's the pop-up list, not the default value. I find no other references to "~" than the two Wizard lists (one for files, the other for projects).


I think we've got an enhancement request here.
